Glazed lava, Lava rock for kitchens and bathroomsLava is extracted from volcanos in the center of France. It is then cut, shaped, glazed and fired at over a 1000° in our workshop. There are multiple uses for lava : kitchen worktops, bathroom vanity tops, inside or outside tables... We also make lava tiles in different sizes. a little history... Derived from the volcanic region of AUVERGNE, lava rock was first used as a construction material. It was used to build many local monuments, in particular the Clermont Ferrand cathedral. In 1827, a chemical engineer, Mr. Mortelecque from the National Factory of Sévres carried out his first experiments. Currently, glazed lava is used for kitchen and bathroom surfaces. In this field, lava easily competes with contemporary materials. Modern kilns can often contain slabs measuring up to 2.50 metres long. Amongst lava’s competitors, no other can boast such a shimmering aspect. The ranges of glazes are innumerable and therefore allow colour researches to obtain perfect matches with surrounding items (furniture, curtains, etc…)... THIS CAN ONLY BE ACHIEVED WITH CERAMICS.
